Skilled Contractor Uses Rustic Beams to Transform Bedroom
Contractor Paul Lendosky had a challenge on his hands. How to create a ceiling treatment with symmetry in a bedroom featuring an off-center ceiling fan and mis-matched placement of HVAC registers. Putting his carpentry talents to work, he created a show-stopping design using wood beams from Ornamental Millwork and Moulding.

To create the eye-catching accent in the master bedroom, Lendosky installed both five- and three-inch tall Rustic Beams in the Ambrosia Maple style. He offset different parts of the ceiling treatment with a dozen 3x5 brackets.
“Once I laid out a laser line and some tape so the homeowner could visualize the ceiling treatment, she approved our recommendation,” says Lendosky, owner of First Choice Home Improvements LLC out of Phoenix, Arizona. “The entire project, including layout, cutting and installation took about four hours.”

Easy-Install Wood Beams
Those four hours helped transform Destiny Alfonso’s bedroom. She had been working on a bedroom upgrade project as part of a series of room renovations in connection with The Home Depot.
“One of the reasons we were able to move so efficiently is because the wood beams were easy to work with,” says Lendosky. “The cleats were a perfect size and the lightweight nature of the hollow wood beams made them simple to handle. Don’t misunderstand me … these beams are very sturdy, but the system makes them easy to install.”
The “system” referred to by Lendosky includes mounting boards and toggle bolt hardware for each wood beam. Once installed on the ceiling, the mounting boards are what the hollow beam attaches to on both sides with the bolts.
“Personally, I decided to purchase larger toggle bolts from a local hardware store because I prefer a larger diameter bolt,” says Lendosky. “The system was seamless to install. I just wanted the extra security of longer bolts for this project.”
Brackets Add Style
After the wood beams were securely in place, Lendosky moved on next to the brackets.
“I love the way the brackets fit,” says Lendosky. “They gave me room to ‘cheat’ against the wall because the walls were not square/flat. Cutting the beams to the contour of the walls would have taken many more hours. The brackets save time and add a distinctive look to the ceiling treatment.”

Even though Alfonso’s bedroom project is now complete, Lendosky is still working with Ornamental’s wood beams. “I just recently measured out two rooms for a client who intends to use the Ornamental beams,” says Lendosky. “I was so pleased using these beams in Destiny’s bedroom that I’m looking forward to helping other homeowners transform rooms in their homes!”
